Moving off Square usually means losing something.
The default path off Square is a CSV export, a lot of manual cleanup, and hoping variants, images, and inventory line up correctly on the other side. Customer notes, gift card balances, and discount history rarely survive the trip at all.
Hiring someone to do it by hand solves the spreadsheet problem, but not the risk - a one-off script or agency migration has no report to check afterward, no safe way to re-run if something fails partway through, and no way to tell what's already been moved on a second attempt.
Skip the spreadsheets.
Migrating by hand means exporting Square's own files, then cleaning and re-importing them into Shopify - and Square's export still leaves out details a real migration needs. unSquared connects directly to your Square account instead, so products, customers, and gift cards come across automatically, matched and mapped for you, with a full report of what happened. The one exception: Square doesn't share product weight or sale price with any app, including unSquared - that's the one step that still uses a quick file upload. Everything else doesn't.
| Manual Square export | unSquared |
|---|---|
| Multiple CSV export/imports | Direct Square Connection |
| Manual field mapping | Automatic field mapping with review |
| Manual troubleshooting of errors | Control how data can be migrated |
| Duplicate risks | Duplicate safe-runs |
| Separate gift-card work | Easy gift card migration |
| Manual website redirects | Easy URL redirect migration |
| Manual cutover planning | Scheduled inventory and gift card syncs, plus re-syncs for products and customers |
| Limited data, limited visibility | More data, detailed audit trail |
A one-time migration, not another platform to maintain.
unSquared connects to Square with read-only access, then copies exactly what you choose - products, customers, gift cards, discounts, collections, URL redirects - into Shopify once, on your schedule. It never modifies, creates, or deletes anything back in Square.
That's a deliberate choice. unSquared isn't trying to become a second system you keep both stores in sync with forever - it's built to finish the move and then get out of the way. Products keeps a couple of narrowly-scoped, opt-in tools (Inventory Sync, Re-sync Products) for merchants who need to keep pulling in Square changes during a longer cutover, but the default path is: migrate once, verify, done.
Every run is built to be checked, not just trusted.
- Your credentials are encrypted, never stored in plain text
The access tokens unSquared uses to connect to your Square and Shopify accounts are encrypted before they're saved, and never exposed to your browser. They're used solely to run the migrations you request.
- No storefront downtime
Your live Shopify store stays fully operational the entire time - customers keep browsing and checking out normally while a migration runs in the background.
- A report for every run
Every migration type has its own downloadable report, showing exactly what migrated, what was skipped, and why - not just a final success or failure message.
- Safe to re-run, always
Already-migrated records are matched and skipped (or updated, if you turn that on for Products) instead of ever being duplicated - run it again with no risk.
- Resumable by design
A run interrupted by a lost connection or an expired Square token picks back up on its own once things are back - already-migrated records are never redone or duplicated.
Read-only in, reviewable out.
unSquared never writes back to Square - your Square account keeps working exactly as it did before you connected it, for as long as you need it during the cutover. And nothing that lands in Shopify is a guess: every migrated record carries a hidden reference back to its Square original, which is what makes duplicate detection, re-syncing, and reporting possible in the first place.
